Lantern Festival

This sunday Buddhists celebrated something with a lantern festival. There were Korean Buddhists, Sri Lankan Buddhists, and even caucasian Buddhists. Wild. There was a street festival and a 2.5 hour parade. Click the picture below to see the pictures.

I was hoping to have pictures from the mma (mixed martial arts) event my gym participated in this saturday but apparantly I didn't realise how big the event was going to be. In short: they didn't allow photography. I thought it was going to be small and not televised, but in retrospect those expectations were silly considering some of the big names involved.

My mma school has a sister school in Japan where my instructor started. Two fighters from that school came to the event and our grappling instructor had a fight. The grappling instructor's fight was the main event so he's a big deal I guess, he fought one of B.J. Penn's fighters. BJ Penn is a big deal in maa as he beat the current 175lb UFC champ Matt Hughes and he beat the current ?lb Pride Fighting champ Takanori Gomi. 3 of his fighers participated. Unfortunately Penn's fighters' didn't seem to reflect his abilities as they lost 3 of 3 fights. It was neat to see my instructors ring side just like B.J. Penn, it gives them street cred[it].

After the fights I waited with one of the guys from the class to meet up with the grappling instructor and other guys from our gym as I thought they might go out and party it up to celebrate the victory. It turns out the grappling instructor really is a celebrity. People actually waited to get autographs from him and some of the other fighers. Anyway, no one went out to celebrate. Pussies.

OMGzers

A martial arts student from my Karate class (the grappling instructor actually) has a fight this saturday. This event forced my hand in purchasing some new glass for my camera. Expect many slightly sharper and having better contrast new photos to follow :D

So I got to thinking, thinking about the expression: all I need to know I learned in kindergarten. Think about that for a minute. Really mull it over. If that's true, and I'm a kindergarten teacher, then my students are going to be fucked up. Ha! The expression is about as true as intelligent design, so yes that was a joke - I hope.

Cherry Blossoms (Almost)

This past Saturday I went on a walk through a park known for its cherry blossoms this time of year. I went a little too early so they aren't as blossomy as they will be (I assume). Once they're in full swing and there's a nice day it will be too crazy busy to enjoy. There's also some pictures of a traditional Korean wedding and some drinking that happened later in the evening.
